Students in action (Learning the history of cinema)

To understand the movement we imitate how a quadruped moves we draw quadruped animals, 8 times, changing position of the legs, tail and ears. Then the work goes on. After drawing the animals moviment silhouettes, students colored them using a black felt tip pen. Then using scissors, every single figure was carefully cutted, following the shape.
The next step was pasting the shapes on a strip of paper in the right movement sequence. In this way students made the "film" of the movement. To see if the sequence worked, the next step was to make the "movie machine".This machine is composed of various elements. One of these elements was a circular base, we can see in the above image.

In Greece we started learning the History of cinema visiting the Europeana platform and going through a Learning Scenario based on the use of Europeana resources. Students form the cinema club as well as those form the 6th grade watched the related to history of cinema video, and then they started learning about cinema tools as well as movie posters and their contribution to cinema's evolution.
Students created several presentations about phenakitoscope, thaumatrope, fusil photografico, Chinese shadows, etc. They also prepared a timeline, working in pairs or groups. (click on the photo)
